LYGG to Save Sundsvall Region’s Connectivity for November-December

Press Releases

LYGG, a digital business travel platform specializing in demand-based direct flights, is stepping in to maintain flight connections between Sundsvall and Stockholm for November and December. Starting on November 4th, LYGG will operate flights Monday to Friday over a seven-week period, with tickets now available for purchase. The route will proceed based on sufficient passenger bookings.

With SAS withdrawing its flights from the Sundsvall – Stockholm route for November and December, LYGG is stepping in to ensure continued connectivity for the region. Flights will be available, from Monday to Friday, for the duration of the seven-week period.

“We are extremely happy to help Sundsvall Region to retain its flight connection. This is at the of core what LYGG does: when we see demand, we can start a route within a matter of weeks”, Roope Kekäläinen, LYGG’s CEO explains.

For the local community, LYGG is seen as a savior. Sundsvall Timrå Airport CEO Frank Olofsson has never encountered such a wave of feedback in his 14-year career in the industry. “This is a catastrophe for the connectivity of the whole region. We are very grateful to LYGG for stepping in. It is now up to us in the region to show the demand we have.”

Flights Will Only Operate with Sufficient Number of Passengers

LYGG’s business model is based on need-based direct flights and aligning the aircraft size with the number of passengers. This means that LYGG will not fly empty planes.

“Since this route is set to operate for a short period, and we are planning to use the same size aircraft than previously served the route, we require strong participation from local companies”, Kekäläinen emphasizes.

The only noticeable change for travelers will be the booking process. “All flights are now in our online booking tool. We are offering early bird price until the end of October. Now it is up to the businesses to book their tickets to keep the route”, Kekäläinen explains.

Future Flights to Luleå, Gothenburg, Copenhagen

LYGG has been in discussions with several companies in the region, identifying a need for additional routes. In particular, Luleå, Gothenburg and Copenhagen have been mentioned as potential destinations in addition to Stockholm.

“We are very interested in helping the businesses in the Sundsvall region connect with their desired destinations. Everything depends on the demand we see during these seven weeks of operation and SAS’s plans to return to the route. Our aim is to create connectivity for regions lacking it, not to compete with airlines,” Kekäläinen clarifies.
