LYGG Opens Bookings for New Groningen–Norwich Air Connection Starting on 4 March 2026

Press Releases

LYGG has opened bookings for a new direct air connection between Groningen Airport Eelde and Norwich Airport, with operations starting on 4 March 2026. The route will operate every second week on Wednesdays and Thursdays and is designed to scale with additional frequencies as demand grows, in close cooperation with the partner airports.

The Groningen–Norwich connection is the first leg to open as part of LYGG’s wider North Sea Route, which is being built in stages to connect key offshore, industrial, and maritime hubs across the region, while remaining open to all business travel needs.

“We are pooling demand across the North Sea, because companies operate in multiple locations,” says Roope Kekäläinen, Founder of LYGG. “Our model enables a staged rollout, with routes launched only once they are commercially and operationally sustainable. That’s why we are starting with Groningen–Norwich, where secured demand is already in place.”

Built on confirmed demand

LYGG creates scheduled air connections with secured pooled demand, matching it with right-sized aircraft operated by certified operators. LYGG’s model allows routes to open sustainably, with reliable schedules and efficient aircraft use, avoiding the uncertainty often associated with traditional regional route launches.

“We design scheduled air connections together with companies, so routes open when there is a real, recurring travel need. Even small volumes matter. An existing LYGG route can unlock an additional operational day with just 40 passengers per month,“ Kekäläinen explains.

“We are very pleased that this flight route has been established,” says Jonas van Dorp, Manager Commerce & Business Development at Groningen Airport Eelde. “The collaboration with LYGG adds extra value to the social relevance of our airport. Namely, appropriate new business connectivity for the region. This means that not only holiday passengers but also business passengers are served at our airport.”

Building the North Sea Route

The North Sea Route is being developed as a regional network. The preliminary schedule connects Groningen, Norwich, Humberside, Den Helder, Esbjerg, and Stavanger, with each connection introduced once it reaches commercial and operational readiness.

Each leg develops at its own pace, but all are part of the same long-term North Sea connectivity plan.
