LYGG will launch a new direct air connection between Esbjerg and Groningen in the Netherlands starting August 4th, 2026, strengthening connectivity for two key North Sea industry regions. The connection has been developed around the operational travel needs of offshore, maritime, and energy companies operating across the region.
“We are very pleased to launch this new direct route between Groningen and Esbjerg. The connection has long been requested by the energy sector, and we see significant potential in developing a sustainable route that responds to market demand while connecting key hubs across the energy industry,” says Allan Dahl Leiberg, Acting Airport Director at Esbjerg Airport.
The new route will according to Allan Dahl Leiberg help reduce travel time and make it easier to travel between installations and projects throughout the North Sea region.
“North Sea industries operate across borders, but regional travel between these hubs has often involved unnecessary complexity, multi-modal transfers, and uncertainty. Not anymore,” says Roope Kekäläinen, Founder of LYGG.
Bookings Are Open
Bookings are now open for companies through LYGG’s serial ticket model via LYGG’s website. Designed for the operational realities of offshore and project-based travel, where last-minute changes and schedule adjustments are common.
“LYGG’s goal is simple: save time, reduce friction in the travel chain, and create price predictability for air travel. Our serial ticket model provides fixed pricing while maintaining flexibility,” continues Kekäläinen.
The initial schedule has been designed specifically to support crew rotations and business travel patterns within the North Sea industries, and it will continue evolving as demand matures. Starting on August 4th the schedule includes connections between Esbjerg and Groningen during Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
The Evolving North Sea Route
The Esbjerg–Groningen connection is part of LYGG’s broader North Sea Route development, which connects regional business hubs across Northern Europe based on committed travel demand. As demand develops, LYGG plans to continue strengthening the North Sea Route with additional frequencies and regional connections.
”The aircraft will be based in Esbjerg, which is a significant advantage for us. It provides the opportunity to continuously adapt both this route and potentially other connections from Esbjerg in line with market needs and developments,” says Dahl Leiberg.
