Customer Story | Clarksons
In offshore operations, getting crews to the right place at the right time is essential. But when projects are located in regions with limited flight connections, organising crew changes can become a challenge.
For Clarksons, the challenge was transporting Norway-based crews to the Shetland Islands. Regular commercial flight connections did not provide an efficient solution, and the journey also needed to connect with onward helicopter transfers.
Working with LYGG, Clarksons found a way to bring the different parts of the journey together.
Finding the right connection
Before deciding on the flight arrangements, LYGG worked with Clarksons to explore the available options and find a solution that would best support the project’s requirements.
“From the start of the project, LYGG provided clear guidance on all available options, including the associated advantages and disadvantages, enabling us to make a well-informed decision,” says Jean Michel Rijken, Aviation Operations Supervisor at Clarksons.
The chosen solution was a dedicated fixed-wing charter from Bergen to Sumburgh, coordinated with the onward helicopter operations.
As Rijken explains:
“For our project with LYGG, fixed-wing and helicopter operations are seamlessly integrated to ensure efficient crew transportation to the Shetland Islands. As most crew members are based in Norway and the islands are not easily reached through regular commercial routes, a dedicated fixed-wing charter via LYGG has been the ideal solution.”

Less time travelling and more control over schedules
The new arrangement allows Clarksons to plan crew movements around the project’s operational requirements rather than existing commercial flight schedules.
“It significantly reduces travel time while giving us full control over scheduling and departure times,” Rijken says.
Beyond the flight arrangements, ongoing coordination and communication have been an important part of the cooperation.
“Throughout the operation, their team has remained available 24/7 and consistently keeps us informed of any delays or schedule changes.”
For offshore projects, where several parts of a journey need to work together, that level of coordination matters.

A partnership built around operational needs
The cooperation between Clarksons and LYGG demonstrates how dedicated air connections can support complex crew movements, even when existing flight networks don’t meet the need.
For Clarksons, the value is not only in the shorter journey, but also in having a reliable partner who understands the operational requirements and helps keep the different parts of the journey connected.
“Their flexibility, reliability, and proactive communication have made LYGG a valued partner, helping us ensure smooth and efficient crew changes with minimal travel time for the crew.”
